As an organization, we strongly believe that one of the most important questions we need to ask ourselves is, “How do we define ‘help’?” How we answer this question should dictate the types of services we provide for those in material poverty. How “helpful” are those services that do not advance the difficult situations families and individuals face, but instead leave them stuck in the same plight, or worse, trap them there.

Our central vision of communicating our faith through serving those in need has remained unchanged, but the manner in which we seek to meet those needs has evolved. This is a natural result of our experiences from working with those in poverty over the past ten years. This evolutionary process has taken another step forward with our reading of the book, “When Helping Hurts”. The ideology and theology presented in the book resonated with us on so many levels, capturing the essence of what we had been thinking and discussing.
